2025 Ducati DesertX: Price, Photos and Specifications
Ducati has officially launched its new big trail bike, the DesertX, in the US. This bike has a look inspired by the old Paris-Dakar rally machines. Discover the price, extras, and everything this innovation brings to the country.
The Ducati DesertX, revealed globally in 2021, is finally available in the US market. Its design features two prominent round headlights, evoking the adventurous vibe of the past. Inspired by the bikes that took on the Paris Dakar rally in the 1980s and 1990s, its sculpted lines and two circular DRLs capture the retro style of the rally while maintaining a modern touch for today’s audience.
Design
The Ducati DesertX, a big trail bike, features an innovative design, drawing inspiration from the rich history of the Dakar Rally.
The DesertX’s design pays homage to the fearless “Dakarians”, combining an aesthetic that blends tradition with a decidedly modern touch. Developed by the Centro Stile Ducati, the adventure bike follows criteria of essentiality and robustness. The designers opted for a minimalist aesthetic, conveying resistance and harmonizing form and function in an exemplary way.
The “Robust Design” effect is achieved by a careful alternation between wide curves and small details. The lines suggest sportiness, revealing a motorcycle that transmits a passion for adventure.
According to the brand, the bike is visually composed of three macro elements: a single central volume, the seat, and the windshield integrated into the dual headlight. The DRLs of the full LED headlights are integrated into the windshield, without any other visible structures, highlighting the technological elements of the bike. The front area creates a completely new composition, emphasizing the technological character of the bike, with the windshield blending seamlessly with the headlight.
Dashboard and Features
The 5-inch TFT instrument panel, with the optional Ducati Multimedia System, monitors advanced features including traction control, wheelie control, engine brake control, and Quickshifter Up & Down. The bike offers six programmable riding modes, cornering ABS, and wheelie control, highlighting its sophistication and cutting-edge technology.
Engine and Performance
The DesertX is powered by the latest evolution of the Testastretta 11° desmo, a 937 cc (57.2 cubic inch) engine that is 3.7 lbs lighter than the previous generation, in addition to featuring a new transmission ratio. This engine delivers 110 hp of power at 9,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 69 lb-ft at 6,500 rpm. With 6 Riding Modes, including Enduro and Rally, specially designed for off-road adventures.
Chassis and Suspension
The aluminum fairing, standard on this bike, wraps around a large part of the engine, creating a visual integration with the front of the motorcycle. The Ducati DesertX has a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel. The big trail also comes equipped with Brembo brakes, featuring the ABS Cornering function, and uses Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tubeless tires.
The suspension, supplied by KYB, features inverted forks at the front with 46 mm diameter tubes and 9 inches of travel. At the rear, the bike has a monoshock, providing 8.7 inches of travel to tackle different terrains with confidence.
Dimensions and Weight
The DesertX features a generous 9.8 inches of ground clearance. Its trademark Kayaba inverted front fork is 46mm in diameter and offers 9 inches of travel, with compression, rebound, and preload adjustment. At the rear, this adventure bike features a single shock absorber, also from Kayaba, adjustable for compression, rebound, and preload. Through the aluminum swingarm, the rear wheel has 8.7 inches of travel.
The DesertX’s tank holds 5.5 gallons, and the declared dry weight is 445 lbs.
Equipment and Accessories
The Ducati DesertX arrives in the US with a range of optional extras. These include items such as reinforced handguards, headlight and radiator protection grilles, a robust engine protector, and tubular protection bars. For travel lovers, the bike offers aluminum side cases and top cases, a central stand, heated grips, and additional LED lights. An additional 2.1-gallon rear tank is also available to increase range.
