Meet the New BMW R12!

BMW Motorrad adds another cruiser to its international lineup: the BMW R12! After many rumors throughout the year, the Bavarian brand has finally officially revealed the model.

According to the brand, the R12 features a classic design, combining the traditional boxer engine with modern technologies. The model offers several customization options, allowing owners to adapt the bike according to their preferences.

Design

The BMW R12 follows the standard with its opposed-twin engine. In Europe, it offers several customization options, from a Roadster to a street bike, including a Scrambler look.

The wheels can be spoked or alloy, depending on the configuration chosen. In terms of dimensions, the R12 is 86.6 inches long, 43.7 inches high, and has a 59.8-inch wheelbase.

The total curb weight is 500 lbs, including the 3.7-gallon fuel tank. The seat is quite low, at 29.7 inches from the ground.

At the front, the new bike uses an inverted fork with 1.8-inch diameter stanchions and 3.5 inches of travel. The rear is equipped with a single-sided swingarm and a shock absorber with 3.5 inches of travel.

The wheels are 19″ at the front and 16″ at the rear. The brakes are disc brakes equipped with ABS, with dual discs at the front and a single disc at the rear wheel.

Equipment

In Europe, the BMW R12 comes standard with an analogue instrument panel that includes a separate speedometer and tachometer.

There is also an option for a digital instrument cluster with a 3.5″ screen. Among the main factory equipment available are two riding modes, a proximity key, traction control, and engine brake control.

In terms of electronics, the R12 offers two riding modes (Rock and Roll), ABS Pro with action on both wheels, dynamic traction control, a USB socket, Bluetooth connection, and full-LED lighting.

Engine and Performance

The BMW launch comes equipped with the renowned 1,170 cm³ (71.5 cubic inch) twin-cylinder boxer engine, with mixed air and liquid cooling.

The engine has dual overhead camshafts and delivers 95 hp at 6,500 rpm. Among the innovations, the R12 features a fully integrated airbox under the saddle and a Twin Pipe exhaust system, with two inverted cone-shaped outlets positioned on the left of the bike.

Chassis and Suspension

BMW Motorrad has developed a new tubular steel frame for the R12, giving the bike a classic, clean look. The rear subframe is bolted to the main frame.

The suspensions include an inverted front fork and a Paralever rear shock absorber, both with 3.5 inches of travel.

Price

The BMW R12 is expected to be priced around $17,000 in the US market.
