2025 BMW Motorrad R 1300 GS Adventure: Engine, design, specification

The line of premium adventure motorcycles will receive its newest member – the 2025 BMW Motorrad R 1300 GS Adventure. This model is significantly different from the R 1300 GS, offering a unique design and enhanced capabilities, emphasizing its individuality within the BMW Motorrad family.

Drastic Changes in Design and Frame

The new R 1300 GS Adventure has undergone significant changes compared to the R 1250 GS Adventure. It has a completely new frame, a redesigned body, and an improved storage concept. There are four options available: Basic, Triple Black, GS Trophy, and Option 719 Karakorum.

Updated Engine and its Characteristics

The new model is equipped with a completely new 1300 cc (79.3 cubic inch) two-cylinder boxer engine from the R Series of BMW Motorrad. This engine, smaller than its 1250 cc predecessor, features an under-engine gearbox and the latest cam drive. Engine power reaches 145 hp at 7750 rpm, and the maximum torque is 110 lb-ft at 6500 rpm.

Transmission and Auxiliary Systems

A new six-speed transmission sends power to the driveshaft, as is traditional on GS models. An optional Automatic Shift Assistant (ASA) makes clutch operation and shifting easier, similar to Yamaha’s Y-AMT and Honda’s DCT systems.

Modern Electronic Assistance Systems

The motorcycle is equipped with a variety of electronic rider assistance systems, including four riding modes: Enduro for off-road, Rain, Road and Eco for optimal fuel consumption. Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC) with braking function and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) are also standard.

The optional Driving Modes Pro package offers additional driving modes and systems such as front-end torque control (MSR), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) and Hill Start Control (HSC). Also available are Active Cruise Control (ACC), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning and a new Rear Collision Warning (RECW) system.

Suspension and Adaptive Steering

The R 1300 GS Adventure’s suspension features Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA), available as an option, which automatically adjusts damping and spring rates as well as load compensation. Adaptive Height Control automatically adjusts the motorcycle’s height based on operating conditions.

Increased Fuel Tank and Luggage Space

The 7.9-gallon aluminum fuel tank is significantly larger than the 5.6-gallon tank of the R 1300 GS. It also doubles as a luggage compartment with attachment points for an additional 12-liter bag.

Lighting and Wheelbase

The motorcycle features state-of-the-art all-LED lighting including newly designed matrix headlamps, integrated front and rear turn indicators and LED auxiliary lights. Headlight Pro with adaptive headlights is available as an option.

The R 1300 GS Adventure is equipped with a 19-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel, but a “Rally” version with a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel is planned for the future.

Amenities and Additional Options

The seat height of the R 1300 GS Adventure is 34.3 inches, and the total weight of the motorcycle is 593 lbs. For driver comfort, there is a charging compartment with a USB connector and an on-board 12 V socket, a keyless entry system and heated grips. Heated seats are available for an additional fee, making the trip even more comfortable.
